Conference Room

The Greater Rochester Nursing Home Quality Consortium uses this site here at FLCC Victor Campus because it is centrally located. This conference room is perfect size for their large group. We interviewed Julia VanDrimar from the group to find out more about why they meet at this facility.

Student Work Room

Interviewing students about what they are working on. Mechanical car that runs on a track using battery operated LED lights.

The class visiting the FLCC Victor Campus

Tomorrow is a big day!

Our whole class will be meeting at the Victor campus.  We will be getting a tour, meeting with a couple of professors, filming the school, shooting panoramic photos, etc.

Sam Samanta in the Physics lab will be ready for Friday’s tour along with his class. He did warn that Friday is a smaller size class for him.

Selim Araci in the Engineering Science lab is working on securing students to be in the lab and do a demo for us.

I am waiting to hear back from Tracy and the instructors regarding someone to demonstrate the 3-D printer.

The Greater Rochester Nursing Home Quality Consortium group has agreed to be filmed! So we will get to show off the school’s conference rooms while in use.

Everyone on the team is bringing personal cameras to shoot behind the scenes footage and stills, plus Jimmy Froio will be shooting videos for the site and Kelsey DePaulo will be shooting all of the panoramic photos.

We have a lot to get done and I am very excited!  Check back in the next few days for more updates!

Victor Campus Tour - Part Two

Here are some more photos from our tour this morning.
Outside the conference room
The conference room is huge!
It is used by a large number of outside organizations and  will be highlighted in our Virtual Tour.

First Tour of the FLCC Victor Campus

Tracy Archie, Heidi Mancin and Jan Lorow.
This morning Paul and I met with Tracy Archie, the Campus Center Administrator for the Victor Campus, and Heidi Mancin, the Director of Marketing at the building in Victor.  We were able to sit down and discuss    the Virtual Tour Capstone Project and how we might make this happen.

After talking about or goals for the project and going over some preliminary ideas for what needs to be done and what can be done, we were all very excited to get moving on the project.

Then Tracy gave us a quick tour.  Here are some of the highlights.

Bad News/Good News

Good News/Bad News

On Friday, Paul dropped in the FLCC Marketing Department to let them know about our Capstone Project and to find out what they needed us to do to be in compliance with the school’s standards – basically getting their blessing.  He came back to class with the bad news: The College had already hired an outside company to put together a virtual tour app and it is getting ready to launch soon.  Great minds think alike, I guess.

So, was the project dead in the water?  Not exactly.  Heidi Marcin, the Director of Marketing, had some ideas for us.  The three of us met to discuss the options and which project would be most valuable to the college.  We decided to create an additional virtual campus tour, in the same style as the one being launched in Canandaigua, but ours would be of the Victor Campus.  This was actually great news and a much more manageable project because the semester is moving along and our time to complete the project is getting shorter and shorter.

We are meeting with Tracy Archie at the Victor Campus this Thursday morning to discuss moving forward.
Also, Heidi discussed using this story - a New Media Student creating a utility that the college can use even after graduation – as a marketing piece for the college.  That’s pretty exciting!

Stay tuned!
