Planning out the pages

This is a start to what could be included in the site for the Self-Guided Tour.  It has the potential of having a lot of pages.

  • Basic Tour - Highlighted in the tour that I took with the admissions office.
  • Key Places - Where visitors not taking a tour might need to go.
  • Library - On the school tour we visited each level of the library.  It could be a stand-alone tour or a 'tour-within-a-tour' as it would only be available when the library is open.
  • Computers - I need to do more research on where they all are!  And which are available to whom -  the public, just students, just students in certain courses.
  • Extras - A few of the cool things at school that weren't covered on the tour.  I am sure there are more than what I have listed.

I still need to get map files from marketing!

Next Step: Wireframe the website . . .

I wasn't sure what Paul meant by wireframe.  I was thinking it was like a plan-o-gram or storyboard.  I looked it up on Wikipedia.  I was right.

"A website wireframe, also known as a page schematic or screen blueprint, is a visual guide that represents the skeletal framework of a website." ~~ Wikipedia Article

So, then I decided to do some further research and I found this at sixrevisions.com
Ultimate Guide to Website Wireframing.  I love how under 'Tools for Wireframing" he first lists

PEN AND PAPER!

I can do that!  Actually he lists a bunch of software to help with wireframing as well.  I will be spending the next couple of hours checking them out.

Stay tuned to see which way I decide to go and I may even upload some images.  You never know.

The Project Idea

We want to create an application using smart devices such as iPhones and iPads to provide new students and visitors a self-gided tour of the FLCC college campus.

The main challenge is that we did not know if there was software already available to provide the backend program - so we didn't have to code and develop from scratch.  We are hoping that maybe Google can help us.

Visiting the FLCC Campus can be confusing.  The admissions office office provides scheduled tours, but what if they are not at a convenient time for the visitor.  We want to use QR code technology to develop a way to tour the campus via smart devices like iPhones and iPads.

Our first challenge was to find out if there was technology in place that could help us with the backend coding and development.

Google may be the answer:
