Presentation!

Finally! Presenting the Virtual Tour as we speak! Way to go Jan!!

Getting ready for the presentations

iPad

Done!

I finished up the final touches on the website today.  It's been uploaded to the school server and is ready to rock for the presentation this evening.  We will have iPads available for the audience members to check it out.

I am glad that this project is complete!  It's been a labor of love.  I've learned a lot about Dreamweaver and coding.  It's been challenging, but very satisfying!

Here is the link to the site where it will be temporarily.  All of the files are going to be turned over to the FLCC Marketing Department and hopefully it will find it permanent home at flcc.edu in the near future.

Finishing Touches

As we near the presentation of the Capstone Projects, everyone is getting excited and nervous.

The campus tour website is coming together nicely.   The final video is shot, edited and uploaded and that page just needs that link to be updated.  The photo page is complete.  The walking tour itself is functional. The page that features just the 360 panoramic photos still needs to be hammered out, but other than that, it is just "Wish List" tweaks - little things that we wish were a little slicker.

Stay tuned.

Presentations and Critiques and Tweaks, Oh My!

On Friday, April 26th the three New Media Capstone projects were again presented to the panel for critiques.  The progress thus far on the Victor Campus Virtual Tour project was well received and the panel gave us a lot of great suggestions.

Afterwards I met with Heidi Marcin in the Marketing Department at FLCC and showed her the website on one of the school's iPads.  She seemed very impressed with the project at first glance.  Over the weekend, Marketing was able to really delve into the site, offer up suggestions and tweaks and Heidi got back to Paul and I via email.  It is very encouraging to note that most of the issues that she found that needed to be addressed, we had already talked about with the panel or were in process of completion!  Good news indeed!

Completed Items:

  • The 360 Panoramas are working really well.
  • The videos are edited and uploaded.
  • The tour in general works as expected.

Items in process:
  • Photo page
  • 360 stand-alone page
  • Links to social media and the college main site.
  • Bottom "You are Here" functionality.
  • 360 shoot for Conference/Multi-Purpose Room scheduled for 5/2/13 at 10am.
We are also considering adding one more video of the 3-D printer in action!  A demo is scheduled for 5/2 as well.

We are counting down the days until our public presentation on May 10th!

The Student Work Room

Student Work Room Video

This was a really cool demonstration that we got to see on our visit to the Victor Campus.  I'm really glad that these students were here to show us what they were working on.

DreamWeaver work

We have been working diligently in DreamWeaver!  We got the tour pages to work pretty well last week.  This week - working on the different elements for the 360 panoramic rooms and making the tour text that we got from Heidi load onto the appropriate pages.  It's getting exciting and coming together nicely.

Kelsey is working on the promo video to present to the panel on Friday.  I can't wait to see it!  And John has been hard at work editing the interview videos that will be included on the site.

Here are a couple of screen shots of work in progress on the site.

HTML vs. Flash (funny!)

I thought this was funny and it's kind of where I am with this whole process.  :)

Pearson VUE Testing Room

Interviewing Keith Gaylor about the testing room.

Conference Room

The Greater Rochester Nursing Home Quality Consortium uses this site here at FLCC Victor Campus because it is centrally located. This conference room is perfect size for their large group. We interviewed Julia VanDrimar from the group to find out more about why they meet at this facility.

Student Work Room

Interviewing students about what they are working on. Mechanical car that runs on a track using battery operated LED lights.

The class visiting the FLCC Victor Campus

Tomorrow is a big day!

Our whole class will be meeting at the Victor campus.  We will be getting a tour, meeting with a couple of professors, filming the school, shooting panoramic photos, etc.

Sam Samanta in the Physics lab will be ready for Friday’s tour along with his class. He did warn that Friday is a smaller size class for him.

Selim Araci in the Engineering Science lab is working on securing students to be in the lab and do a demo for us.

I am waiting to hear back from Tracy and the instructors regarding someone to demonstrate the 3-D printer.

The Greater Rochester Nursing Home Quality Consortium group has agreed to be filmed! So we will get to show off the school’s conference rooms while in use.

Everyone on the team is bringing personal cameras to shoot behind the scenes footage and stills, plus Jimmy Froio will be shooting videos for the site and Kelsey DePaulo will be shooting all of the panoramic photos.

We have a lot to get done and I am very excited!  Check back in the next few days for more updates!

Victor Campus Tour - Part Two

Here are some more photos from our tour this morning.
Outside the conference room
The conference room is huge!
It is used by a large number of outside organizations and  will be highlighted in our Virtual Tour.

First Tour of the FLCC Victor Campus

Tracy Archie, Heidi Mancin and Jan Lorow.
This morning Paul and I met with Tracy Archie, the Campus Center Administrator for the Victor Campus, and Heidi Mancin, the Director of Marketing at the building in Victor.  We were able to sit down and discuss    the Virtual Tour Capstone Project and how we might make this happen.

After talking about or goals for the project and going over some preliminary ideas for what needs to be done and what can be done, we were all very excited to get moving on the project.

Then Tracy gave us a quick tour.  Here are some of the highlights.
